Yukiya Amano

Director-General, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)

Graduate, Faculty of Law, Tokyo University. Experience in disarmament and non-proliferation diplomacy, and nuclear energy issues. 1972, with Japanese Foreign Ministry including international postings in Belgium, France, Laos, Switzerland and US; contributed to 1995, 2000 and 2005 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conferences; until 2005, Director-General, Disarmament, Non-Proliferation and Science Department. With IAEA: 2005-06, Chair, Board of Governors; 2006-09. Japan's Resident Representative; since December 2009, current position. 2001, governmental expert on UN Panel on Missiles and on the UN Expert Group on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Education. 2007, chaired Preparatory Committee for 2010 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference.
