Professional engineer, public sector manager, policy innovator. Former: Director-General, Department of Water Affairs and Forestry, South Africa, led policy and legislative reform and transformative national water programmes giving 10 million people access to safe water and ensuring nation water security; with Development Bank of Southern Africa, managed infrastructure and policy programmes; with Mozambique government, water and sanitation programmes. Commissioner, National Planning Commission, South Africa (2010-2015). Visiting Adjunct Professor, Graduate School of Governance, University of Witwatersrand. Advises a range of organizations on water, infrastructure and development issues. Has written extensively on water, health and development.
